From the Archives, Lunatic Asylum Files: Building gets a Stay of Execution (March 29, 1979)

I wanted to share this 1979 correspondance to then Ohio Senator Charles Curran in which Myers R. Kurtz, Acting Director for the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, agrees to delay demotion of the "Dayton Mental Health Center Main Building."  Mr. Kurtz makes it a point that a commitee has found "that the building could not be economically converted to another acceptable use and it should be demolished."  That notwithstanding, Mr. Kurtz agrees to the delay, with specified conditions.

[previously: "Save the Lunatic Asylum!" ]

Here's to Mr. Curran for his efforts in saving one of Dayton's true gems.  As a side note Mr. Curran used to live on Constantia Avenue in Shroyer Park.
